At PayPal I was fortunate to be involved in many great projects in the unique role as a both a product designer and design technologist. In the sections below, I have outlined some of the projects I contributed to.

Tools and Technologies
PayPal Credit Servicing
One of the first things I worked on at PayPal was helping the Credit Servicing team streamline the design for the “make a payment” flow. One of the things I enjoyed most was working with the lead designer on the project to help make sure our dev teams implemented our designs properly. As part of that process we found the interactions for making a payment were buggy and a bit clunky. I helped refine the interactions and designs for that flow and also built a custom datepicker component that I helped our engineering team deploy to our LIVE experience.
PayPal "Venice" Mobile App
Designing for the web and mobile can be wildly different but sometimes you can find parallels between the two. After helping the Credit Servicing with the make a payment flow and I helped the mobile app team build a new datepicker component for the same flow that was based upon the design we used in the web application.
PayPal Working Capital
PayPal Working Capital is one of PayPal’s most successful products. I helped the design team with the interactions design of the loan sign up process and through rapid prototyping we helped refined the flows to be quick, simple and easy.
PayPal.com Legal Agreements
User Agreements and Terms are boring legal documents that most people don’t read. That’s why when the Legal team approached our team to redesign PayPal’s legal pages we were delighted to try and make those pages stand out. I worked closely with the design lead to redesign the experience for the Legal Agreement pages and build rapid prototypes to share with all our stakeholders — including our CEO Dan Schulman. The result was a design that completely transformed the legal pages for PayPal that improved the usability and comprehension of the documents. As a result, I won a Spot Award from the VP of Legal for the quick turnaround and success of the designs.
PayPal Credit Checkout Experience
Signing up users for Credit when checking out was one of the most a difficult problem I faced at PayPal. Users don’t tend to focus on offers or banners when checking out so optimizing that experience to get more conversions was tough. I worked with design, content and user research to test and optimize various designs through rapid prototyping.
PayPal has a great patent idea submission process and encourages all its employees to contribute ideas if they think it will present value to the company. I immediately gravitated to the program and came up with a great new idea for a new type of payment system using PayPal. I worked out the details for how the product would work, designed the whole flow and worked with patent legal team to turn it into a patent submission.
